Simba Farm has been in the family Bruinsma since 1981, we grow wheat and barley for the Tanzanian market and export seed beans overseas. Tourism is our newest subdivision promoting Argo-tourism. Simba farm is working farm on 5,000 acres of rolling hills in West Kilimanjaro offering breath-taking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Maasai steps and Mt. Meru.
The sheep: Our sheep are a cross between Blackhead Persian and Dorper Sheep. The sheep are mostly used for meat production. The lambing season takes place twice a year around February and again in September.
The cattle: The breed we have on the farm is Boran. Boran is mostly bred for the meat production with a few cows being kept for dairy.
At Simba Farm Lodge, we are surrounded by acres of fields, in which we grow the best quality wheat and grain to use at the lodge, and for distribution within the community. From this we can create the most amazing breads and delicious cakes, all made freshly on site and available to enjoy during your stay.
Into this we plant only the very best in carefully chosen seeds and home-grown juvenile plants, which have been selected over many years from only the most succulent, sturdy and high-yielding fruit and vegetables to ensure the produce that comes from them is just as good. There are also benefits when it comes to pest control – unlike most market places in Tanzania, we apply very limited and controlled spraying; ensuring no harm to the plants and better still none to the consumer.
And the last but by no means the least of our ingredients is the genuine love and care that we devote to our produce and customer service. Every living thing responds better to a caring environment and this is also true of our food and perhaps the most common reason that so many people keep coming back to Simba Farm Shop, where the experience is unhurried, the staff knowledgeable and helpful, and the customer always put first.
