A Perfect Walk

Take a walk on the Shira Plateau and enjoy breakfast overlooking the Tanzanian and Kenyan plains!  Don’t forget to stop and take a moment to admire the breathtaking views of the summit.  The day starts by leaving the lodge at 07:30 with the aim of reaching the gate by 08:00 in order to sign in and meet our guide.  Once at the Shira Rim, you can choose between various hikes.

Day Trip

Guides:  At Simba Farm Lodge, we have two English speaking guides available to take you up to the Plateau at any time.  NB – The guides are only available on booking a minimum of one night’s B&B at the lodge.

What is needed for the day trip:
– Copy of your passport
– For residents a copy of your work permit
– Visa/Master card for payment at the KINAPA gate (Gate does not accept cash).
– Good footwear
– A warm sweater/jacket
– Plenty of drinking water
– Camera

At Simba Farm Lodge we can arrange a car for the day trip at a cost of $100 for a full day and $20
for an English speaking guide.

Different hiking trails are available:

Shira Plateau Day Hiking trail
Shira Northern Rim Trail
Half Day
Full Day

This is a circular trail that takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. With breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, you can also see into Kenya on a clear day.

This is a 1.5 hour hike.  This hike leads to a series of spectacular observation points along the northern rim of Shira Crater.

Full day walk for approximately 3-6 hours and back at the lodge around 17:00
